I'm Moving!!

I bought a new domain and I'll be moving the whole website. The new joint will be at The Far Turn (dot) Net. I'm going to forget about the drupal app and the classifieds for now and try to focus on just a couple of sections- the BLOG, Forum, and also some way to profile the local racetrackers.

That's all for now. Gotta get started!

More News - Mostly Not Good

This time my classified section, which I was hoping to set up again for horsemen, has been hijacked by some asshole. Why these people need to pick on me I have no idea. Nobody's reading any of this crap but me, and it's a waste of everybody's time. I'm still glad that nobody legitimate has showed up here yet- I need to get thse bugs worked out.

That's all for now.

The News Right Now is There is No News

As of this posting, all I can say is that my domain renewal is coming up, and I can't decide whether to keep this old domain or register a new one or both. I have a great shopping cart for an e-commerce website that I hate to give up; the fact was I was going to use it for the site's shop, which I wanted to have for two reasons- one, to help pay for this website and hopefully me for creating it, and also because I want to find and be able to sell the kinds of things that riders need (because I like the idea of riders being able to shop online.)

As long as I have had these two applications, the site and the (currently unused shopping cart) they have done little but cost money. I think I am too shy to get the Far Turn rolling because it is simply not perfect, and I have nobody to help me create a good design.

That about wraps it up for now. If anyone was actually reading this, I might even get some help.

Brain Fart Update

I just got the note from Brandon. He deleted the old forum so withing one hour (6 a.m EST) I'll have the new forum up, thought probably no topics. Feel free to have a look, though, and DO come back.

Brain Fart; Re- Start

Holy cow! Much has not happened since I last posted. Our router had a brain fart and died; my notebook's ethernet connection crapped so I couldn't connect it to the cable modem; I suffered a serious case of literary constipation due to the crampy location of the desktop machine.

You had to have been there to understand it, but the bottom line is I'm back on the sofa in my spudwear to pen an update.

I discovered during this time that my Invision board installation on my web server - that I have had up since '05 and never used - has been contaminated with P.O.R.N.. that is, in the only available forum, the TEST forum. I also found out that the server no longer offers this application, and to my dismay I couldn't find it to remover it; nor could I log in to remove the offending forum. So possibly everyone I have invited has been mis-introduced to my subject preferences.

Hopefully my support guru, Brandon, will have this rectified by the end of today, and I can Install the PHPBB forum and finally post the questions I indicated in my post of the 6th.

So please, if you wander across this post anytime after today, say tomorrow for example, you should find the forum salted with some engaging subjects for discussion and debate.

In other business, I'm working on a store. I may only have PayPal as an option at first; a merchant account is a lot to worry about if I don't even have customers. Later I'll offer credit card pass through. The point is, my shop will support the website, and hopefully me as well, at least as another source of income. I want to report that I'm happy to keep my books open to establish that I'm not raping the Public. I'm not going to present every detail, but as far as what my income versus outgo is, there will be no secrets. We'll see how effective honesty is in keeping visitors returning (and buying stuff from me that they can otherwise buy elsewhere).

Finally, I am planning to produce the NEWSLETTER that the HBPA does not produce. We'll see how far that gets, but I wouldn't be surprised if, once I start to do it unsolicited, I'll be getting lots of hits on the website.

That's it.

Nuttin much happenin' yet

Something's wrong with my laptop. This is really cramping my style, but anyway I'm on the desktop to make contact. What I'm going to do today is place some of the questions in the Forum that I asked friends to submit, and I'll be waiting for replies in the next couple of months. These questions are wide ranging, but for example, a couple of them have to do with what happens to racehorses when their carreers end. This is one of the biggest issues for debate, and it's not all about debate.

I'm also going to first post this question in my BLOG and answer it briefly there, mainly because I am pushing exposure, but also to permit some anonymous comments. Some people will simply not post unless they don't even have to create a fake identity.

You have to not theat right now, nobody is congregating here. I haven't advertised, haven't promoted, not a thing. What I have to do next is start placing the www.thefarturn.net label everywhere and hope somebody goes there. Then, I have to hope people head for the Forum and actually register so they can offer their own insights and comments.

So if you haven't seen this accouncement enough already, go to the FORUM!

Greetings From The Small Time

The News is that this site is finally going to take off. It's been sitting here since '05 dreaming about going big and hoping to find a smart web person who wants to help develop it (or else luck into a lot of money and pay someone to do it. But we gotta get in before we can win, so I'm doing this backwards. The site needs all the help it can get, friends.
Those of you whom I have sent links to it, you need to start posting in the Forum.

IMAGINE:

Posting a message: "I need to get my gate OK at Podunk Downs; there's a race Friday and I have to handle this by Tuesday. Anybody out there....?"

And getting a reply by the next day; " I'll meet you at the Gate at 8:30. I'll wait five minutes. Don't be late."

And you never even had to ask anybody. I'm saying this because the trainers are surrounded by people just like them -- They all need the same stuff, and they are always asking us Exercise riders to find somebody. We spend four hours there and they're there all day and sometimes all night, so who has more time to find help?"

But if you can get online here, you don't even have to know who you are asking: Just ask, and you have a potential score of similar-minded individuals who need you as bad as you need them.

Can you see the benefit here?

And you can even be from the big time... I mean, you can be from Hollywood park and do this, too. This site may be humble now, but you never know; it could grow, and it will but you have to show up and keep passing on the address.
