WOOO! GOSHDANG it’s cold!

It’s not the temperature, which is 9 degrees. It’s the dang humidity! Not quite cold enough for my “Wind Beaters”, which are malfunctioning due to the loss of a heel strap, but.. well, HERE YA GO…

2 PM:

At least it got warm fast, but the races were cancelled again, for the very reason that was chosen a couple weeks ago. The bottom is rock hard, the cushion about an inch  (for an idea of what this feels like try running barefoot up and down a paved road); The bottom never thaws because it's not warm enough, but the surface does, and there is so much frozen precipitation worked into it, it becomes muddy or sloppy; the effect is what Charles refers to as "slicker n' snot on a doorknob".

As soon as I have a good collection of the many various track conditions, I'll be creating a photographic "legend" for readers to see just what kind of complexities come into play with regard to RUNNING and CANCELING races. Us racetrackers always piss off at maintenance, management, jocks, or anybody we can. But we're all responsible for the big picture, which is what no- one seems to understand, preferring instead to argue endlessly about it. But here's what it looked like today, at 7:30 AM:

(I finally got these photos up- on the 5th)

(Those are not rocks, but balls of Ice. At 9 degrees, they can cause serious bruises)

And at Noon:

(both my own and the horses' prints- pretty shallow, huh? Remember what I said about runnung barefoot on blacktop?

See Y'oun's later. Best wishes and GOD BLESS!
